Calculation engine

The right math for each quantity

Conversions are not forced through one generic formula. Each category uses the relationship that matches its physical definition.

Fixed-factor conversions

1 in = 2.54 cm

Linear quantities use defined or recognized factors. Values are converted through a consistent reference unit before display.

Scale and offset formulas

°F = (°C × 9/5) + 32

Temperature scales require both multiplication and an offset. The direction of the conversion determines the formula.

Inverse relationships

L/100 km = 235.215 ÷ mpg

Fuel economy, pace, and frequency-to-wavelength relationships are reciprocal rather than simple factor conversions.

Logarithmic conversions

dB SPL = 20 log₁₀(P ÷ P₀)

Sound pressure and electrical audio levels use logarithmic reference formulas, with incompatible physical domains kept separate.

How invalid or incompatible requests are stopped.

  • Empty, non-numeric, infinite, and non-finite input is rejected.
  • Negative values are accepted for temperature scales where valid.
  • Physical quantities that cannot be negative are guarded.
  • Shared URLs are checked before their unit selections are applied.
