Physical height

PPI describes pixels per inch in an image or display. DPI describes printer dots per inch. Density is required because pixels do not have a universal physical size.

Conversion formula

width in inches = pixel width ÷ PPI; height in inches = pixel height ÷ PPI

At 300 PPI, 3,000 pixels prints 10 inches wide.

About this conversion

Digital pixels do not have an inherent physical length. Their printed or displayed size is determined by pixel density. Enter the actual PPI or DPI required by the image, display, or print workflow instead of assuming a universal pixel size.

Frequently asked questions

What density should I use for print?+

300 PPI is a common high-quality target, but the correct value depends on printer, viewing distance, and output method.

Does changing PPI add image detail?+

No. Changing metadata alone does not create pixels; it changes the intended physical size unless the image is resampled.
